About Us

We are a non-profit organization, whose operating and restoration funds for the museum are derived from visitors, local contributions, granting organizations and Association members. The ongoing restoration of the site of the Palmerston Railway Station and Museum by a dedicated group of volunteers is a tribute to the era of steam, and to an industry that dictated the growth and development of the Town of Palmerston and surrounding area.

To help make the history of the Palmerston Railroad more accessible to the world, the Palmerston Railway Heritage Museum has created this website.  We have provided a History section which details the history and importance of the Station, the Pedestrian Bridge as well as other sites throughout the town and near the museum. We are currently working to add images to each of the histories to provide a visual interest.
The museum is run and maintained by active volunteer members of the Palmerston Railway Heritage Museum Association. Click on our Membership section to find out how you can become a member, and volunteer to help preserve Palmerston's railway history!

The museum has on display numerous railway memorabilia from both the Grand Trunk Railway and the Canadian National Railway. We also have on display numerous historical items from Palmerston businesses, representing town life. All of our display items have been donated by individuals who often have had family members tied to the railway.

Since we are a non-profit organization, we are only able to have regular hours throughout the summer months of July and August. However, it is possible to book a personal or group tour of the museum by contacting the museum through email [palmrailroad@wightman.ca] or by telephone [519.343.4014 or 519.343.3435].
