Update -- Western Track Base
October 6, 2009

This photo of the flooded track was taken this morning at 10:00am.  By 1:00pm drainage furrows had been dug, and the water level was dropping.  We hope that this will be a satisfactory solution to the flooding issue, and that our track will finally be re-installed.

Palmerston Railway Heritage Museum Hosts Announcement ...
August 30, 2009

On Friday afternoon, August 28th, 2009, representatives from the three levels of government, Perth-Wellington M.P. Gary Schellenberger, Perth-Wellington M.P.P.John Wilkinson and Deputy Mayor of the Town of Minto, Judy Dirksen, were assembled outside of the Palmerston Railway Heritage Museum to announce the Town of Minto's approval for their Main Street Revitalization project. The project is receiving $406,800 through the Rural Economic Development Program, which invests in community-based projects in three priority areas: revitalized communities and downtowns, enhanced skills training, and improved access to health care services.

Through funding provided by the Rural Economic Development Program, the Main Street Minto Revitalization Project will look for ways to draw new investments to the area over the next three years. A rural Downtown Revitalization Summit will be held in 2010 to discuss ways to enhance the downtowns of Minto and foster economic development.

The goal of the project is to create 165 jobs over the next three years in the communities of Palmerston, Harriston and Clifford. Improving the downtown streetscapes of these three communities, will help increase pedestrian traffic and encourage residents and tourists to stop and shop in the community

As John Wilkinson said, "This much needed project will help beautify the downtown areas of Clifford, harriston and Palmerston, bringing new investment and retail opportunities to Minto.  Renewing interest in our downtown areas will contribute to our local economy, create new jobs and make us even prouder to call Minto home."
